Moto (Bob Gatzen & Gene Bozzi) with Steve Swallow, Jim Odgren, & Bill Frisell - Live at the Old State House, Hartford, CT, USA, 1982-07-09 [SBD][FLAC]

I recorded a series of shows in summer 1982 of Bob Gatzen and Moto in Hartford, CT. Most were audience recordings, a couple were from the soundboard. I gave Bob the tapes right after the show and he'd return them to me at the next show. He didn't care what I did with them after that, he said. I have distributed them pretty narrowly. This is the first time I'm distributing most of them broadly. As usual any help with names here is appreciated. Bob was disturbed that I mucked with the volume of his floor toms at the start of Ida Lupino; he kept getting louder and louder and I had to continue to turn down the volume to keep it from clipping. I hadn't had time to get a level check before the show started. So there you go. Enjoy!

U.K. (Feat. Allan Holdsworth) - Live at Punch And Judy Theatre, Grosse Pointe, MI, USA, 1978-07-19 [FLAC]

JEMS master recording.

A very good to excellent sounding recording. This show captures U.K. touring in support of their self titled debut. They played a 2 night stand at the Punch and Judy Theatre with this being the second of two nights. The lineup here of this progressive rock supergroup only lasted for one studio album and 2 short tours less than a year in length. Enjoy !!!

Original Changes Made (Nero 7) to original remaster http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=175055

Swapped over reversed L & R channels on first 2 tracks of each disk
Cross-mixed tracks (70:30)
- improves extreme channel balance, instrument clarity and noise

Further V2 changes (Nero 8 unless indicated):

Corrected phase offset of -0.03msec
Clip restoration and fixing of too high levels in parts of Disk 1 (Audition 3)
Further cross-mixing (ratio 98:2)
Gentle low-setting NR, reduces mainly hum but also actually improves sound quality
Removed the silence / gaps between tracks 04 & 05, concert is continuous for those with digital streamers
Fixed the small glitches between other tracks on disk 1
Combined tracks for editing, then re-tracked to avoid SBEs
NO EQ, compression or other sound enhancements used, just fixing more recording deficiencies.

The original remaster has been on the tracker for more than 2 years and 1285 downloads, but since then I've learnt to use other tools and have been able to improve it further. The music sounds louder (despite no level or other sound enhancing changes), there is more bass, Cobham's drums have more punch and there is more depth (emotion?) to the sound of this great music.

IMHO the best just got better...Enjoy !!

!!!! EXTREMELY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED LISTENING !!!!!

V1 Remaster Notes >>>

The original sounds great, but with un-naturally wide stereo image with solo instruments
hard left or right and appears to have had some stereo broadening some time in the chain,
plus channels were swapped over on some of the tracks.

All that was easy to fix and now it sounds quite superb, almost CD quality, so here it is
by request of several Dimers in another recent MO post...

...Enjoy !!

Original Posters Notes >>>

Excellent soundboard quality. Enjoy!

Vital Information, Eef Albers, Chick Corea, Joe Pass & Others - "Jazz Alive" [FM][FLAC]

Photo: Dutch guitarist Eef Albers

There is no mention of the Vital Information line up. Besides Steve Smith (drums) and Tom Coster (keys) I am guessing it also features Dave Wilczewski (sax) and Tim Landers (bass).
Track 5 Includes 2 guitarists (Eef Albers & Mike Stern or Dean Brown ?) and a percussionist. Strange how the line up changes for T5 (different tour & show?) I believe Smith Dropped the 2 guitar attack and brought in Coster sometime 84'/85' to make it jazzier plus Coster can make a lot of music!

Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - Live at Garden State Arts Center, Holmdel, New Jersey, July 7, 1990 [FLAC]

Get your hard drive cleared, because here comes some SRV! In honor of Stevie’s life, and on the anniversary of his final performance, I’m going to seed some shows that have probably been seeded here before, and probably by me, but that have fallen off the tracker. These are all KILLER shows that are among my favorites. I just grabbed a stack of my favorites and searched the tracker, so these are among my go-to shows.
Why this show? Fantastic upbeat performance! Sounds good to me. Fantastic version of Riviera Paradise, two smokin’ versions of Collin’s Shuffle, What more do you need! Stevie plays around with his Octavia during this performance and darned if that temperamental effect doesn’t work! Voodoo wails! BTW After this show, Stevie’s iconic guitar, Number 1, was broken by a falling stage baffle...ouch!

Tony Levin Stickmen Trio - Live at Teatro Astra, Schio, Italy, April 30th, 2009 [FLAC]

LDB Special Series #186

Out of my 7,000+ shows and radio broadcasts, I have many concerts that were special for some reasons: the setlist, the musicians, the venue or unexpected events. These are the ones I'd like to propose you. Most of these come from my cassettes collection, so they will be released at a slower pace than my Master Series! But you won't be disappointed! I will try to gather the most unusual things I have in my collection and, as always, your feedback and comments will be my reward for all the work involved in this project. DO NOT share this music on mp3, just convert it for your own use. Sharing mp3's is the right way to make me stop sharing music here. This is a direct transfer from the master MiniDisk (courtesy of Salvatore) which was sent as one single wave file. I have added a bit of bass (strange enough since it is a bassist show!) and split the tracks. Enjoyable show. Obviously King Crimson fans will find a lot of commulalities with this show. Enjoy !!!

VIDEO: Bob Berg Quartet - Live at Sala Kongresowa, Warsaw, Poland, 1996 [DVD]

If you like good sax players like John Coltrane (my all-time favorite) then you will going to love this fantastic show!! Bob Berg (April 7, 1951 – December 5, 2002) was a jazz saxophonist originally from Brooklyn, New York City. He started his musical education at the age of six when he began studying classical piano. He began playing the saxophone at the age of thirteen. Bob Berg was a Juilliard graduate influenced heavily by the late 1964–67 period of John Coltrane's music. He was known for his extremely expressive playing and tone. A student from the Hard Bop school, he played from 1973–76 with Horace Silver and from 1977–83 with Cedar Walton. Berg became more widely known through his short period in the Miles Davis band. He left Davis's band in 1987 after recording only one album with the band. After leaving Davis's band, Berg released a series of solo albums and also performed and recorded frequently in a group co-led with guitarist Mike Stern. On these albums he played a more accessible style of music, mixing funk, jazz and even country music with many other diverse compositional elements to produce albums that were always musical. He often played at the 7th Ave South NYC club. He worked with Chick Corea, Steve Gadd and Eddie Gomez in a great quartet. His tenor saxophone sound was a synthesis of Rhythm and Blues players like Junior Walker and Arnett Cobb with the lyricism, intellectual freedom and soul of Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson and John Coltrane. SMV - Live at Chapiteau de la Pépinière, Nancy, France, October 9th, 2008 [FLAC]

This is a part of the "Nancy Jazz Pulsations" called NJP; Richie Havens opened, i've taped him also. There are two gaps (2 or 3 seconds), i haven't noted where exactly. SMV is a bass supergroup formed in 2008. The group's name comes from the first initials of each of its members, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and Victor Wooten. The collaboration gained momentum when the three first played together at a concert held by Bass Player magazine in New York City in 2006, where Miller and Wooten joined Clarke on stage to present him with the magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award. SMV's debut album, Thunder, was released on august 12, 2008, with a supporting world tour beginning the same month.

Al Di Meola - "Electric Rendezvous" with Hammer & Gadd - Painter's Mill Star Theatre, Owings Mills, Maryland, USA, February 3, 1982 [2CD][FLAC]

"Painter's Mill Star Theatre" was in the Baltimore suburbs. It was one of those theatre in the round joints, that had a rotating stage in the middle, although it never rotated for any of the shows I saw there. Being stationary likely made 20% - 25% of the seats unusable,as they would have been behind the stage, and the view obstructed. It had previously been known as "Painter's Mill Music Fair". I guess it held maybe a couple thousand folks. It burned to the ground years later. It was rumored that it had been torched for the insurance. This was the Electric Rendezvous tour, where Al finally brought along the superstar session musicians, who had performed on a lot of his early records. Jan Hammer opened the show with his group, and went down very well. His version of Hendrix' "Manic Depression" was a show stopper. This show was the night before the band recorded the live album, TOUR DE FORCE, in Philadelphia. While it was a good show, I personally thought the shows I saw in 1978 were better. I don't think this tour lasted too long, so I would imagine there aren't a lot of examples of it floating around. Enjoy!!!!

Jeff Beck and The Jan Hammer Group - Live at Cape Cod Coliseum, Cape Cod, MA, USA, August 27, 1976 [MASTER][2CD][FLAC]

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes. He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts. Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording. Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely. Always remember - the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you. Kev & Carl, June 2009

Here's another incredibly HOT electric fusion show by master musician John McLaughlin & Co. These artists are amazing and the sound quality is pretty good for an audience recording! The last track of this recording is very cool. It sounds like somekind of a jam or soundcheck but it's a 30-minute hot fusion jam! This show is also very highly recommended for any drummer! VIDEO: The Guitar Trio (John McLaughlin, Al di Meola & Paco de Lucia) - Live at Audi Jazz Festival, Cirque Royal, Bruxelles, Belgium, 1996-10-23 [DVD]

This DVD is one of my personal favorites! I still remember watching these incredible masters of the acoustic guitar on Belgium TV many years ago. Thank God somebody taped this back then because this is one of the most beautiful acoustic guitar shows I have ever seen! The show starts off with an incredibly beautiful solo piece by John McLaughlin followed by a wonderful classical flamenco piece played by Paco de Lucia. The guys play tunes from all three Guitar Trio albums and although I'm a huge John McLaughlin fan, to me one of the highlights of this show is Al Di Meola's Solo which he plays after Mediterranean Sundance. This is really one of the most beautiful guitar solos I have ever heard. Don't miss this !! Enjoy !!!!
