Chick Corea & John McLaughlin - Five Peace Band - Live at Chicago Theatre, Chicago, Illinois, USA, April 3rd, 2009 [2CD][FLAC]

An excellent sounding show. The first using my new recorder. There are a few minor flaws, caused mostly by me trying to re-adjust my croakie mics under my collar. I'm sure no one is going to mind. Overall, the recording quality turned out beyond my expectations. This had a lot to do with the audience acting accordingly, by refraining from chatter for the most part.
As for the performance, besides outstanding solos from everyone, I think the band seems a little less aggressive with Brian Blade. As much as I love his playing with Wayne Shorter, I would've preferred Vinnie Colaiuta. Another disappointment, though a very minor one, was the unbelievably short version of "In A Silent Way", an absolute highlight from the live CD. But after almost 2.5 hours of playing, I imagine the guys were tired. Overall, an unbelievable once-in-a-lifetime concert experience, no fusion fan should've missed...Enjoy!!!

Incredible DVD by the late Shawn Lane. One of the greatest and fastest guitar players ever. This is a Must-See for any serious guitar player. On this DVD he plays beautiful melodies combined with extremely fast licks! If you haven't seen or heard him before, beware to put your own guitar in a save place because you might just want to burn it after you have seen this incredible talent :-)

Wayne Krantz Trio (Feat. Tal Wilkenfeld) - Live at The Tivoli Theatre, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, October 20, 2008 [FLAC]

This was the first show of the Australian leg of a short tour, and the first time Krantz has visited our shores. I managed to catch the soundcheck for this show and was really struck by Wayne's approach. Whilst Tal and Keith were going through the motions of doing a regular soundcheck, Krantz was approaching every note he was playing with real passion, prepared for the tunes they were checking on to go the full distance, though he knew they wouldn't. A real lesson there, I thought... The gig itself was really awesome, and a dream come true for me (and many others) to finally see Krantz, (although a friend did comment at one point that it would have been nice to hear a shuffle!) The recording came out beautifully to my ears. I was very impressed with the quality as I chopped it up in Audacity with my Sennheisers on. I had the perfect seat: front row, centre. I haven't bothered with song titles despite recognising quite a few tunes from Wayne's "Your Basic Live" and "Your Basic Live 06" releases. For those of you familiar with Krantz's music, I don't think he cares a whole lot for titles anyway! The only tune he introduced was the opening cut from Tal Wilkenfeld's great debut release, Transformation, entitled BC.

Hope you enjoy this. And let's hope more shows pop up from Krantz's Oz tour.

Cheers!

Trent.

Mahavishnu Orchestra - Live at Music Hall, Boston, Mass., USA, May 3, 1975 [FLAC]

Although the sound quality isn't the best, this rare Mahavishnu Orchestra show contains some of the hottest playing by John McLaughlin I've ever heard. If you like High Voltage Electric Guitar at the Speed of Light combined with Funky, Jazzy and Rock riffs, you're in for a real treat!! This show kicks ass !! This is a "raw from master" transfer (except for track 1 tuning up) and could probably benefit from some EQ'ing. the source of this tried to do that, as is heard in track 1, but the result in the concert came out crackly and was burned onto a cheap and defective CD. So I went with my raw from master copy for this, which is not from a crackly or defective CD, but is quite "boom-heavy". this is a common problem with Music Hall auds. I also left the track 1 tuning out of my copy to get it all on 1 CD. I've put it back for the post, but it sounds "brighter" than the rest because it was EQ'ed by AC (the taper.) Would be great if somebody could do a remaster of this fantastic show!

Jimi Hendrix Experience - "Sotheby's Auction Tapes" - Studio Outtakes [MASTER][FLAC]

Fixed Version

These tracks, also known as the Axis Outtakes, nearly never made it past Kathy Etchingham's dustbin. Luckily they were retrieved and ended up in an auction at Sotheby's in December 1981.
Since then they have turned up in various guises on collectors lists and of course have been treated to the usual shabby mangling on various bootleg releases. This is the the best version from the masters on DAT.

John McLaughlin & the Free Spirits - Charles Hotel Ballroom, Cambridge, Mass., USA, Early Show, April 10, 1994 [MASTER][FLAC]

glasnostrd19's Jazz Masters Series

It's John McLaughlin. It's a Boston area show, and it's from glasnostrd19. So how many steps is it? Three, of course, and it's part of glasnostrd19's Jazz Masters Series. Masters of jazz from master audience recordings. Certified clipless/pegless glitchless/gapless and a complete set by Glasnost Radio Productions. The 1st 30 minutes of this concert were played on the Glasnost Radio program (WCUW Worcester 91.3 FM) to help promote the Free Spirits Cambridge 3/96 hows, which were very hot. This one was pretty hot too. This is a You are There production, because when it's a John McLaughlin concert, where the hell else would you wanna be but there?! This is probably one of my 10 best aud. recordings. Enjoy!!!

Billy Cobham - "Spectrum Revisited" - Live at Yoshi's Jazz Club, San Francisco, CA, USA, Early Show, April 13, 2008 [FLAC]

Billy played with this band here for a week. A few months later they would play a few dates in Washington D.C. and New York. What a great band. I was hoping they would do an official dvd for this band but these recordings that I have are probably the only documents of these amazing performances. Something about the vibe for these very special shows that would have been great to capture on video as well as audio. Billy and Dean especially would have been great on camera. Dean was smokin' all week! Billy was really feeling Panama all week and playing it most sets (and a few next week) and I think this show has my favorite performance of that song. They were really locked in and in the zone. I think they would have played it all night. Billy's wife unfortunately came over and cut them off. I was hoping they would keep playing and end up running late on this, the final night of the one week tour. It still ended great. Bill gets cut off, finishes the song and then goes into an extended drum solo! How Cool! Billy would play the following week in Oakland with a different band. This isn't the funkiest Cobham band but I have seen Billy 35-40 times over the years and the shows this week with this band were was my favorite shows, my favorite live Cobam band, and performances of these great songs that I have ever seen. They could have played a few more songs during the week and swithched up the setlist more than they did but Mark Soskin was a late replacement for Brian Auger and I don't know how many songs Mark could learn in the time before the shows. As Dean Brown said when I told him how many shows I had seen the band that week, "That's A Lot Of Notes". I have seen Soskin before, he was great as usual. I kind of felt sorry for Auger because these were some of the best shows ever. More of my favorite shows from the past that haven't been circulated will be popping up along with the new shows. Enjoy!!!!

Additional notes from Dime:

-Disc 2 has "The Wildlife Sessions" AKA "The Stockholm Tapes"

In 1974, Williams put together a new Lifetime featuring Bum's Rush holdovers Webster Lewis on keyboards and Laura 'Tequila' Logan on vocals, along with former Cream/Lifetime bassist Jack Bruce and British guitarist Allan Holdsworth. This lineup, sometimes referred to as "Wildlife", recorded an album's worth of material at Atlantis Studio in Stockholm Sweden, that has never been officially released.

-The demo with Bruce and Tequila is more likely from 1974 than 1975, although the exact date remains elusive.
