Electric Outlet - Live at Zweites Dresdner Drum Festival, Puschkin Club, Dresden, Germany, September 20, 2008 [MASTER][FLAC]

ELECTRIC OUTLET (AMAZING GERMAN FUSION!!)

Electric Outlet are a killer rock fusion instrumental power foursome that showcase formidable technical expertise but in a framework that is easily digestible for even the most hardened instrumental snob! Electric Outlet - this name is a synonym for energy, power and life –so is the music of "Electric Outlet".Played with love and passion, driven by the insistent impetus everybody initially felt when they were discovering music. “On!” is a classic combination between high-energy "Rock" and "Fusion" without big overdubs and being totally playable in the live arena. No "artificial" production gimmicks apart from these few samples and totally handmade help bring the organic nature of this release to the fore. The basic idea for the band came while listening to the album "Spectrum" by Billy Cobham. This attitude and the idea, putting Rock-musicians (Tommy Bolin, Jan Hammer, Leyland Sklar) together and make them playing fusion-orientated stuff, made the musicians think about doing an album with a similar approach but 30 years later. Marcus Deml (Guitar): his unique, intense playing and his highly recognisable tone makes him one of the leading guitar players these days. His project "Errorhead" earned internationally respect. He played with SAGA, BOBBY KIMBALL, and KINGDOM COME etc. Tom Aeschbacher (Keys): music is music - doesn't matter which style (Keys) life is life -and fun is fun. If you put all these three components together, it describes best, the way he plays and feels –no more to say. Frank Itt (Bass): "The Groove Rulz!" this is the motto of his playing. Precise and powerful, Frank is laying the fundament and keeps the music going. He played with MICHAEL SAGMEISTER, BOBBY KIMBALL, PILI PILI, and ERRORHEAD etc.Ralf Gustke (Drums): Groove in combination with incredible technical capabilities and a sensitive understanding of music makes him one of the leading European drummers available. He played with XAVIER NAIDOO, SÖHNE MANNHEIMS, and CHAKA KHAN etc.

This was the concert part of the Drum Festival (after the incredible drum clinic of the fine german drummer Ralf Gustke). Usually this Band plays in a Quartet lineup (also on their official CD release), but the keyboarder ( Tom Aeschbacher) was ill this evening. So this evening the Band plays in a Trio....it was a unforgetable and powerful session with an amazing Fusion sound of Rock, Funk and Jazz. Enjoy !!!
~Ricola

Mahavishnu Orchestra - Live at Music Hall, Cleveland, OH, April 21, 1972 [REMASTER][FLAC]

This is one of the hottest and best sounding recordings by one of the greatest bands ever!!! The Mahavishnu Orchestra was a jazz-rock fusion group, led by John McLaughlin, that debuted in 1971 and dissolved in 1976 and reunited briefly from 1984 to 1987. Their musical style was an unprecedented virtuoso blending of genres: they combined the high-volume electrified rock sound that had been pioneered by Jimi Hendrix (who McLaughlin had jammed with on his initial arrival in New York as part of the Tony Williams Lifetime), complex rhythms in unusual time signatures that reflected McLaughlin's interest in Indian classical music as well as funk, an improvisational concept that was rooted in jazz as well as Indian music, and harmonic influence from European classical music. According to John McLaughlin, Columbia refused a live release of this show. John McLaughlin himself feels that this show in Cleveland is one of the best that The Mahavishnu Orchestra has ever done. As Irony would have it, Columbia asked their engineer and Gregg Bendian to assist with the release of this live CD. A mix was made and sent for approval to John McLaughlin. No word from Columbia since. Enjoy !!!

Emperor Nobody Remaster

Lineage: FLAC files from another tracker>WAV via Trader's Little Helper>SoundForge 9>FLAC 8, sectors aligned, via TLH

Nobody notes on the remaster

This isn't currently on the tracker and only circulates (as far as I know) from 2 sources, the silver CD bootleg "Wild Strings" (sourced from what sounds like a slightly generated cassette tape) and what sounds like a first-generation DAT from the soundboard master of the mix mentioned in the original notes above. This second, cleaner source unfortunately suffers from a horrifying digital clipping that comes in towards the end of "The Dance of Maya" and continues through to the end of the set, making the second half of this (absolutely face-frying) performance essentially unlistenable. I grabbed this version from another tracker and set about the arduous process of making the nasty and unfortunate clipping issues go away, and I was fairly successful if I do say so myself. It wasn't really all that hard, given that the bulk of the disastrous noise was in the kick-drum sound, making it easier to isolate and eliminate all the deleterious, nails- on-a-blackboard-in-Hell distorto-crunch. I should also mention that although this commonly circulates as being from the Emerson Gymnasium on the campus of Case Western University, it is indeed from the Music Hall as TMO didn't play Case Western until February of 1973 (and with a more "Birds of Fire"-oriented setlist). As for the performance, I don't know what to say other than Columbia are, once again, idiots. According to what I read the hang-up with the official release of this came in 2004, when the suits at the label offered the five band members 1972 scale wages (!!!) for their services... what amounted to $250 apiece. So I guess the band politely refused and the thing got shelved forever, another lost diamond left to languish in the greedy vaults of shame because some asshats, deaf to anything but the illusion of profit, can't even show a shred of respect for what a whole lot of people think is THE BEST CONCERT RECORDING ever made of what yet more feel is THE BEST BAND EVER. I took the time to fix this up and make it sound the best I could because we'll likely never get to hear this on the official release for which it begs, but on balance I think this version sounds pretty damn spiffy so have at it and see what you think... at least we'll get it circulating without mountains of hiss and ear-splitting clipping anyway. Once again the situation makes but two demands, and those are simply that you groove like you mean it and that you share like you'll die if you don't.

Hellborg ~ Thrall ~ Shrieve - Live at Nefertiti Jazz Club, Göteborg, Sweden, March 14, 1985 [2CD][FLAC]

In 1985, after Hughes-Thrall (with Glenn Hughes on vocals) didn't succeed as expected, guitarist Pat Thrall (ex-Pat Travers Band) performed a one-off live concert together with his ex-Automatic Man, pal Michael Shrieve (formerly with Santana) and Swedish bass player extraordinaire Jonas Hellborg (playing with the Mahavishnu Orchestra at the time).

Whether they were getting ready to record an album or just gigging for fun, they played a blistering set at Nefertiti that included some blues, a couple of funk/vocal tunes, extended bass and drum solos, but mostly red hot instrumental rock/fusion. Thrall is a superb guitar player whose talents were never fully utilized with Pat Travers, but here he delivers an absolutely jaw dropping performance with a guitar tone that will take your head off. And the Hellborg/Shrieve rhythm section (which teamed up again in 1996 on the landmark "Two Doors" CD with Shawn Lane) is, not surprisingly, absolutely killer.

This is a very rare show that I have never seen on anyone's list. It needs to be heard by all fans of heavy instrumental rock/fusion so I am sharing it here. I am so thankful that this was captured in the first place so thanks to the taper - whoever you are. ENJOY!!!!

"I owe Michael a lot; He's the one who turned me onto John Coltrane and Miles Davis. I just wanted to play blues until Michael came. He opened my eyes and my ears and my heart to a lot of things. Some drummers only have chops, but Michael Shrieve has vision. Michael is like a box of crayons; he has all the colors."
